Stipend and Salary Reimbursement
Fellows may apply for a stipend to cover salary costs for the duration of the fellowship and/or a supplement to cover potential travel and accommodation costs.
Fellows continue in their existing employment and receive their regular salary, as CAISA does not pay salaries directly. All expenses must be paid upfront by fellows and their home institution. Once the fellowship has ended, how institutions may request reimbursement of salary costs and approved expenses by submitting an e-invoice to CAISA. Documentation for all expenses is required.
Please note that overhead costs cannot be claimed. CAISA does not cover hourly or daily allowances, and the fellowship is generally not intended to fund expenses related to fieldwork or other data collection activities.
Equipment and Office Space
You must bring your own laptop from your current employment. CAISA provides a docking station and screen. CAISA provides access to a workspace in an open-plan office environment. Desks are not permanently assigned; workstations are used on a flexible hot-decking basis. An office phone booth is available for online meetings. For in-person meetings with CAISA team members the administrative staff can assist with booking meeting rooms.
During your fellowship, you will be part of a collaborative research environment. Every Tuesday in Aalborg and Thursday in Copenhagen, the CAISA team, including the chief scientists, is present at the hub, and we gather for a joint lunch.
CAISA's chief scientists are employed at CAISA one day per week and are otherwise based at five different universities: The University of Copenhagen, Aalborg University, Aarhus University, the Technical University of Denmark, and the IT University of Copenhagen
As part of the CAISA network, you will be part of a community of researchers interested in AI and how it shapes society. You will have opportunities to engage with other researchers working on related questions, share ideas, and learn from people with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise, as well as organize and participate in meetings and workshops.
One of CAISA's chief scientists will be appointed as your academic point of contact, providing support and guidance throughout your fellowship. You can expect a minimum of two meetings with your contact during your fellowship. In addition, you will meet with colleagues responsible for CAISA briefs, communication, and collaboration to organize your brief and plan its launch.
Collectively, we will offer resources and guidance to help you produce a research-based CAISA brief that supports your research in achieving impact with decision-makers, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
During your CAISA fellowship, you are expected to:
- Engage constructively with other CAISA researchers and staff.
- Act as a good ambassador for CAISA, e.g., by promoting your CAISA fellowship.
- Be present at the CAISA hub you apply for on designated CAISA days (Tuesdays in Aalborg and Thursdays in Copenhagen) and for at least two additional days per week.
- Produce a brief (4-6 pages) targeted at decision-makers, policymakers, thought leaders, and other interested stakeholders. Fellows will receive support throughout this process from their academic point of contact and from CAISA administrative staff, including guidance on drafting, editing, and organizing the brief, as well as assistance with its dissemination.
- Participate in the launch and outreach activities related to the brief (e.g. events and workshops).
- Present and share your research at one Research Seminar. Research Seminars are hosted once a month, during which fellows and postdocs can present their research to CAISA team members. This is an opportunity to receive feedback on your research, engage with the wider CAISA team, and learn about ongoing projects.
These expectations ensure that you are fully engaged in the CAISA community and that we can provide the best possible support for your research. CAISA will organize meetings to support the brief development process, the launch of the brief, and the Research Seminar presentation.
Applications are due May 11, 2026. We will not be able to provide feedback on individual ideas or applications before or after the deadline. Due to the volume of applications, late submissions will not be considered. We will not be able to provide feedback on individual applications.
Applicants selected for a fellowship will be informed in June.
The Fellowship must be completed by the end of 2026.
